Old English Longhorns
It seems we have the best and the most beefy breed of cattle in the world...Accordingly to me and Heston B (Fat Duck)...but now lots more people round the area have now tasted Longhorn and we are all in agreement, its absolutely the most amazing beef ever. Thank you Heston! Not only has he improved the profile of this fabulous breed but it seems raised the prices of the cattle liveweight as I found out today when I went to buy some pedigree cattle.ouch...The farmer happened to switch on BBC 2 just as Heston was giving his verdict on the best breed in the world...however I am now in talks to get myself a huge herd of pedigree Longhorns and will hopefully take delivery of them in Jan. This is huge!! I cant wait! Will have to cull my existing herd...not in that sense, just take them to market and see what I get...another adventure!Sales of the Longhorn had surpassed any expectation I had and so the decision to create a herd of my own has been a pretty easy one. Aesthetically they are superb...and taste wise, I don't think I've ever tasted anything like it.Brilliant! If anyone has any ideas on how I can utilize my ever growing mountain of mince it would be much appreciated, there is only so many mince recipes my family will eat!I look forward to you all tasting Old English Longhorn very soon. Please email me with any suggestions

I may be stating the obvious here but why not add value and commoditise the mince? i.e. rather than you selling just the mince why not create ready meals? make it easy for people to use... Obviously the down side is capital expenditure rises, and you have to be decent at cooking (or pay someone who is) but I would have thought the upside in the form of higher margin which you can attain would more than offset additional packaging costs etc.
At the moment it sounds like you have a lot of profit sat in a freezer,,so make it easy for people to buy it :-) Lasagne, beefburgers, chilli etc etc.....stuff that you can make in big batches which of course cuts the time needed to prepare and also means a homogeneity of product per batch....the more you do for your customer to make their life easier the higher the price they pay :-)

and get a celebrity chef to endorse it :-)

just a thought

Either that or get a bigger family :-)
